CHARLESTON, S.C.

The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a recreational vessel Saturday approximately 44 miles off the coast of Charleston.

The 65-year-old man was reported to be in stable condition.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center were notified of the situation via VHF Channel 16. The boater was aboard the 23-foot vessel and was experiencing health problems. The Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the patient be medevaced.

A crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Facility Charleston was launched to conduct the medevac. The crew hoisted the patient and brought him back to shore. He was then transferred to EMS for transport to Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston.
