LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA

Around 1 a.m., witnesses reported seeing a Toyota Camry traveling at a high-rate-of-speed southbound in the 12400 block of Atlantic Avenue.

The female driver attempted to pass another vehicle when her car lost control, hit several metal pylons and a tree before briefly going airborne and crashing into a nearby business, authorities said.

A male and female passenger in the backseat died on impact. They  were not wearing seat belts, according to Lt. Williams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lynwood Station.

The two front female passengers were wearing their seat belts, Lt. Williams said. They suffered minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The preliminary cause of the crash appeared to be speed, authorities at the scene said. An investigation was ongoing.
