OSKALOOSA, IOWA (KWWL)

An Oskaloosa man died Saturday morning after the boat he was operating rolled on Rathbun Lake in Appanoose County, according to an Iowa Department of Natural Resources news release.

Gregory Alan Williams, 50, pronounced dead Saturday afternoon, and a passenger were thrown from the boat after it overturned shortly after 11 a.m. The passenger was not seriously injured.

Occupants of another boat pulled the two from the water.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident.
According to the release, it is believed the 33-foot boat rolled after making a sharp turn. The department is also investigating whether the rough water caused by windy conditions contributed to the incident.

It was unknown whether the passengers were wearing life jackets.

The boat sank after rolling, and s of early Saturday evening, an effort was being made to locate and retrieve the boat in about 40 feet of water.

He was going too fast and failed to negotiate the curve, reaching his final destination on this Memorial Day Holiday.  RIP.
