1 KILLED IN FIERY MIAMI COUNTY, OHIO CRASH WHEN THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE SUV, CRASHED INTO A POLE, AND CAUGHT ON FIRE

MIAMI COUNTY, OHIO

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office says one person was killed when their SUV burst into flames after a crash on Ziegler Road north of Piqua early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, when the driver lost control of their SUV, crashed into a pole, and caught on fire.

Fire crews worked to put out the fully engulfed vehicle, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbor Todd Gray said the crash ‘sounded like an explosion.’ “There was nothing I could do to save the driver, I feel so bad,” Gray said.

Deputies say they have not been able to positively identify the body, and the body will be taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

FIRST REPORT:

Crews have responded to a reported single-vehicle crash and car fire in the 1st block of Ziegler Road in Piqua.

Initial reports indicate the vehicle was fully involved and significant damage was done to the pole the vehicle crashed into.

Miami County Sheriff deputies and troopers from the Piqua post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are on the scene, but neither has said if anyone was injured.
