UPDATE ON TRAIN DERAILMENT IN DICKINSON COUNTY, MICHIGAN








APRIL 23, 2015

Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post, responded to a train derailment April 22, 2015 at approximately 8:25 p.m. near Sturgeon Mill Road, Norway Township in Dickinson County.

The investigation determined that a train, operated by Canadian National Railway Company experienced a train derailment. Ten railcars of the 29 railcars attached to the engine had derailed. The cause of the derailment has yet to be determined.

The railcars were reported empty and no materials were spilled. There were no injuries. Hulcher Services, a train derailment specialist, contracted by Canadian National Railway Company is enroute to the scene. Assisting at the scene was the Norway Fire Department and the Dickinson County Sheriff Department.

Viewers tipped off Upper Michigan's Source to the situation in Vulcan. It's by the Sturgeon River Train Bridge. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Department is assisting at the scene, but cannot comment at this time. The investigation is underway and more details are expected later on Thursday.
