TRAIN AND ELDERLY MAN’S CADILLAC CAR CRASH IN PASCO COUNTY, FLORIDA

APRIL 1, 2015

PASCO COUNTY, FLORIDA

No one was injured in an accident involving a 2011 Cadillac car and a train in Zephyrhills, Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At 9:48 a.m., 75-year old Clayton Leo Zwak was driving his 2011 Cadillac westbound on Melrose Avenue, approaching the double tracks at Old Lakeland Highway.  Meanwhile, a CSX service truck was preparing to service one set of tracks.

Seeing this, Zwak stopped on the tracks as another train approached from the south on the other set of tracks.  The approach of the train caused the crossing arms to lower onto Zwak's vehicle.  Zwak's car remained on the tracks and was struck by the train.

The train, which had 3 engines and 79 cars, was not transporting any hazardous materials and was not derailed.

Zwak suffered no injuries, but his Cadillac’s front was smashed.  Be careful next time, buddy, and stay away from the tracks.  The stop line is at least 10 feet away from the train tracks.
