APRIL 26, 2015

STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH)

A man was killed in a car crash on the Merritt Parkway on the Stratford/Trumbull line and a DOT worker was seriously injured while on the scene, early Sunday.

Police say around 1:43 a.m., a Suba Imprez was traveling on Route 15 when it struck the rear of a Honda Civic, causing both cars to lose control. The Honda came to a final rest on the shoulder and the Suba Imprez stopped in the middle of the roadway, causing the highway to be shut down on the southbound side.

The driver of the Honda, 27-year-old Jesus Rivera, was extricated from the car and  transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The passenger, 20-year-old Jessica Dasilva, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the Suba Imprez, 26-year-old Jonathan Rosa-Witlock, was also taken to Bridgeport Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A CT DOT crash truck responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m. and parked in the left lane of Route 15 South, north of Exit 53, to block off traffic, as a DOT crew was setting up road closures.

A Toyota Corolla, driven by 24-year-old Denisse Garcia, then struck the rear of the DOT truck and continued to travel southbound, before hitting 54-year-old, Kevin Holloran, who was outside the truck establishing a flare and cone pattern. He was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital with serious injuries. Garcia was not injured.

It is unknown if there are any arrests at this time. Route 15 in Trumbull has since been reopened.  The accident is under investigation.

In addition to other charges, Denisse Garcia needs to have her driver’s license taken immediately.
