Two motorists are dead following an Easter morning accident near Charleston around 3:30 am Sunday morning.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, an SUV was traveling north on Interstate 75 at about 100 mph in the right-hand lane, when the driver swerved to avoid a slower-moving vehicle.

According to Lt. John Harmon of the THP, the SUV grazed the second vehicle and then veered off the road, striking a large tree or multiple trees before exploding, bursting into flames and leaving behind fiery wreckage.

Neither the driver nor passenger in the SUV were wearing their seat belts, according to the THP report.  The six people in the other vehicle were not injured.

According to Bradley County Fire Chief Troy Maney, who was on the scene, Bradley County Fire-Rescue received the call around 3:40 a.m. Sunday, and personnel were on the scene in minutes.

Maney said after firefighters extinguished the blaze, the passenger was found under the vehicle.

He said Bradley County EMS responders pronounced both passenger and driver dead at the scene.

The THP Critical Incident Response Team investigation is ongoing.

Identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin, and completion of the preliminary investigation.

RIP, folks.  Obviously you were unhappy living in this world.
