NEWTON FALLS, OHIO (WKBN)

Crews will be back at an oil spill in Newton Falls Friday at the Transco Railways Products Company on Center Street.

The spill happened Thursday about 4:30 p.m. when hydraulic fluid leaked from some machinery.

A hazardous materials team was called in to help with the cleanup.

Firefighter Jared Svette said they stopped the fluid before it could reach a nearby water source.

“We were able to contain it just to their property and keep it off the yards and off the roadway,” Svette said.

Firefighters spent about two hours on the scene Thursday and Transco Railways workers will back out Friday to continue the cleanup.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was also notified.
