CONSTRUCTION WORKER SUFFOCATED TO DEATH IN MEATPACKING DISTRICT SITE IN MANHATTAN, NEW YORK, AFTER EXCAVATION PIT CAVED IN

MEATPACKING DISTRICT (WABC) 

A worker died when he was buried by dirt at a Meatpacking District construction site Monday afternoon.
The incident happened just after noon at the site on Ninth Avenue between West 12th and West 13th streets.

Authorities say the victim was in a dirt hole that collapsed and caved in.

The 22-year-old victim reportedly suffocated.

He was rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
