APRIL 11, 2015

CHALLIS, IDAHO (KBOI)

The Custer County Sheriff's Office says four men died Friday afternoon when their small plane crashed in a creek bed near Challis.
A search and rescue team recovered the remains on Saturday.

A photo provided by the sheriff's office shows the plane in pieces in Loon Creek.

Authorities says the single-engine Cessna burst into flames on impact and the flames consumed the cockpit, leaving only the tail section and wings visible in the water next to the Loon Creek airstrip.

The crash victims have been identified as Andrew D. Tyson, Russell "Rusty" Cheney and Aaron "A-J" Linnell, all of Idaho.

A fourth man was identified as John H. Short of Utah. Investigators say he was the owner of the plane.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined. The FAA is part of an ongoing investigation.
