THE NEED FOR A BETTER DESIGN OF THE TRUCK FUEL TANKS TO MINIMIZE PUNCTURES: SEMI HITS HYDRANT; MORE THAN 100 GALLONS OF DIESEL SPILLS FROM TRUCK

LA MESA, CALIFORNIA

Part of Amaya Drive was closed Monday night in La Mesa after a tractor-trailer hit a fire hydrant, officials said.

The incident was reported near a 7-Eleven on Amaya, near Howell Drive, about 8:10 p.m., a dispatcher for Heartland Fire & Rescue said.

About 110-120 gallons of diesel spilled, said Heartland spokesman Sonny Saghera.

Amaya was closed between Severin Drive to just east of Howell, La Mesa police said.

City and county hazardous materials responded and a private contractor cleaned up the fuel, Saghera said.
