TANK EXPLODES AT MINSA IN MULESHOE, 3 INJURED. COMPANY HAS BEEN CITED BY OSHA FOR 33 SERIOUS VIOLATIONS PRIOR TO THE EXPLOSION AND INJURIES

MULESHOE, TX (KCBD)

Three people were injured after a water tank exploded at the Minsa plant in Muleshoe Wednesday morning.

Officials say the explosion happened just after 8:15 a.m.

Two of the three people injured were flown by Aerocare to UMC in Lubbock. Officials say those two were in 'pretty bad shape.' The other person injured was taken to a nearby hospital. No names have been released at this time.

Officials say the water tank is about 40 feet long and 15 feet in diameter.

OSHA is set to begin an investigation.

The plant has been evacuated and all electricity and gas has been shut off for safety.

MULESHOE CORN FLOUR MILL CITED FOR 33 SERIOUS VIOLATIONS BEFORE EXPLOSION

Three people were injured after a water tank exploded at the Minsa plant in Muleshoe on Wednesday morning.

Back in January, federal safety inspectors cited the corn flour mill for exposing workers to explosion and electric shock hazards. 

Minsa Corporation was cited for 33 serious violations and $151,200 in fines.
This came after a federal inspection in July of 2014. 

The fines were issued by the U.S. Department of Labor in January of 2015. 
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's documents, Minsa Corp. had until February to abate the violations and pay the proposed penalties.
