SEVEN PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL FOLLOWING A CHEMICAL SPILL OR LEAK IN THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PLANT OF INTERNATIONAL FLAVORS AND FRAGRANCES IN UNION BEACH, NEW JERSEY

Seven people were taken to a hospital following a chemical spill or leak in the research and development plant of International Flavors and Fragrances in Union Beach, according to Police Captain Charles Ervin.  The address of the plant is 1515 State Highway #36, Union Beach, NJ 07735.

Police got the call about the leak at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. Initially four people were sent, then another three. Ervin said none of the injuries were severe, as of about 10:30 p.m.

Ervin listed off several emergency response agencies at the plant on Route 36 near Rose Lane, including: Union Beach Fire Department, Union Beach First Aid Squad, and hazmat teams from Naval Weapons Station Earle and Monmouth County.

"It’s contained within the building,” Ervin said Tuesday night. “They’re attempting to clean it up now.”
