FEMALE DRIVER KILLED WHEN HER CAR COLLIDES HEAD ON WITH TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK ON HIGHWAY 17 SOUTH IN GEORGIA

THOMSON, GA. (WRDW)

The McDuffie County Coroner has released the name of the driver killed in an accident on Highway 17 Thursday morning.

Precious Pearson, 21, was killed instantly, according to McDuffie County Coroner.

An autopsy report is expected to reveal more information.

Thomson, Ga. (WRDW) -- Highway 17 South is back open after crews cleared a fatal accident there on Thursday morning.

A tractor trailer involved had been spilling diesel fuel, that is now cleaned up, according to officials.

Thomson, Ga. (WRDW) -- Part of Highway 17 South is shut down after a fatal accident Thursday morning.

Crews are working to clean up diesel fuel spilling from the tractor trailer involved. 

Highway 17 South is closed to all traffic between Quail Farm Road and Happy Valley Road. All tractor trailers are being diverted from Thomson East bypass to Highway 80.

Georgia State Patrol says the accident happened around 8:20am. They say a tractor trailer was traveling north on GA 17 near Quail Farm Road and a small passenger car was traveling south at the same location. They say for unknown reasons, the passenger car crossed over the center line and struck the tractor trailer head-on. The female driver of the passenger car was killed. 

The family has not yet been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
