CONSTRUCTION CREW CAUSES MAJOR GAS LEAK IN DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

A construction crew in Downtown Brooklyn hit a gas main Saturday morning around 10 a.m., causing a major gas leak at Tillary and Jay Streets, officials confirmed.

The leak has been capped, and National Grid crews are on the scene to repair the pipe.

Due to FDNY activity at Jay Street and Tillary Street in Brooklyn, the southbound FDR Drive ramp to the Brooklyn Bridge is closed.

The NYPD called for closures of some or all traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge as a precaution. It has since been reopened.

The Brooklyn Federal Court building was also evacuated.
