FEBRUARY 27, 2015

WESTLAND, MICHIGAN

Firefighters are battling a fire at a Westland industrial building.

The fire was reported about 2:15 p.m. Friday at the business located at 33138 Beechwood near Ford and Farmington Road. Part of the building is used for tire and parts storage with welding and fabricating in the front.

“The fire is ongoing. The guys are getting a good stop on it. They are inside doing an interior attack,” said Wayne-Westland Fire Chief Michael Reddy. “The building was occupied. All the occupants are out of the building.”

Since the firefighters are working inside the building, Reddy said he expected to have the cause of the fire relatively soon. Wayne-Westland firefighters were joined by Garden City and Inkster firefighters in fighting the fire.

Beechwood is closed but Ford and other surrounding streets remain open.
