FEBRUARY 17, 2015

LONGSTREET, LA (KSLA) -

A third person has died as a result of a collision between a truck and a train in DeSoto Parish on Monday.

Louisiana State Police Tpr. Matt Harris confirms that 35-year-old Hebert Barras III of Charenton, LA died overnight at University Health in Shreveport.

LSP investigators say Barras was a passenger in the truck driven by 23-year-old John Watson of Centerville, LA that drove into the path of a southbound Union Pacific freight train from an oilfield road on LA 5 south of Longstreet just before 1 p.m. Monday.

The train hit the truck on the driver's side and tossed it from the tracks.

Authorities say neither Watson, Barras or second passenger 24-year-old Michael Ryder II of Golddonna, LA were wearing seatbelts.

Watson and Ryder were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a toxicology sample was taken from Watson to be submitted for analysis but impairment is not suspected in the crash.

The wreck remains under investigation.
