REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA

Five people are dead and two people are in hospital following a crash this morning north of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

Three vehicles were involved in the Highway 6 crash that killed three men and two women, RCMP said.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. CST Tuesday, about 15 kilometres north of the city.

RCMP spokeswoman Mandy Meier said officers are determining the identities of the five so they can contact the next of kin.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital with injuries.

Traffic from north and south was being rerouted around the accident scene.

Two cars and a truck were involved.

A photograph released by the RCMP showed two vehicles seriously damaged and a truck on top of one of the cars.

Police haven't said what might have caused the crash.

It snowed around Regina overnight, and the Saskatchewan Department of Highways and Transportation said there were winter driving conditions on that stretch of the highway, but no word on whether that might have been a factor.
