HIGHWAY 97, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA




Highway 97 reopened south of  the city  just after 9  last night  after a a tractor trailer carrying ammonium nitrate flipped early yesterday afternoon.  




The truck’s driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and the highway was closed in both directions near Bellos Road in the Red Rock area, as crews dealt with the spill.

This afternoon, a tractor trailer flipped. It was carrying ammonium nitrate, an explosive and poisonous chemical. The truck driver was transported to University Hospital with serious injuries. 




The incident happened around 1:30 this afternoon. The highway is closed near Bellos Road, in the Red Rock area. Personnel with the Ministry of Environment are on scene; no word yet on when the highway will reopen, but a detour is in effect via Red Rock West Road.
