DAPHNE, ALABAMA

Firefighters were on the scene of a blaze that appeared to consume one side of a condominium building in Daphne early Saturday.

Several units from fire departments in Daphne, Spanish Fort and Fairhope responded to the fire shortly after 11:25 a.m, according to Kenneth Hanak, a battalion chief with the Daphne Fire Department.

No one was injured during the incident at the Sunset Bay Villas condominium complex, officials said.  Fire burned through two of the units and one retained water damage, officials said.  One person was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

Units sent to the condo off Yacht Club Drive from the Daphne fire department included five engines and a ladder truck.

"We had a big problem with the wind blowing, we had wind gusts over 35 mph coming through," Joey Holasz, another battalion chief, later said. "That really made it difficult to get control of it."

It took about an hour before the flames were under control, he said.

The cause is still unknown. However, officials from the Alabama State Fire Marshal's office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will arrive on Monday morning to investigate, Holasz said.
