JANUARY 2, 2015

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD)

Lubbock Fire Rescue says a stack of lumber fell and killed an employee at Lowe's Home Improvement on Friday morning.

The employee has been identified as a 23-year-old male but his name has not been released as of Friday night.

Heavy rescue equipment was called to the scene at 11:20 a.m.

Lowe's corporate office sent this statement on Friday afternoon:

We are saddened by the loss of a member of our Lowe's family in an accident at the Lowe's of Lubbock, Texas, today, and our thoughts are with all those affected.

An internal investigation is being conducted. It is routine for OSHA to conduct an investigation into the cause of an incident such as this and we are cooperating with them.

Grief Counselors are being sent to the store to support our employees. The store closed today at 2 p.m. and plans are for the store to reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday. When the store reopens, employees from neighboring Lowe's stores will be staffing the store at that time.
