VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) —

Virginia Beach emergency communications received a call for a working house fire in the 3100 block of Crestwood Lane at 2:46 a.m. Tuesday.

When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were visible from the home.
Twenty-three firefighters were needed to fight the fire. One firefighter was transported to the hospital after receiving a minor injury while fighting the fire.

All of the occupants of the home, four adults and one child, made it out safely, but have been displaced by the fire. One adult male was treated for smoke inhalation. All family members are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The home, in the Landstown section of the city, received moderate damage, but is not a total loss. No other homes were threatened during the fire.

The preliminary investigation reveals the fire started in the garage portion of the home and spread. The inside of the home sustained heavy smoke damage.

Investigators remain on scene working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
