1 TEENAGE GIRL WAS KILLED AND FOUR OTHERS WERE INJURED IN A ROLLOVER CRASH NEAR ELGIN, TEXAS

FEBRUARY 28, 2015

ELGIN, TEXAS (KXAN)

One teen was killed and four others were injured in a rollover crash near Elgin right after midnight Saturday.

The crash happened at 12:05 a.m. about one mile east of Elgin. DPS Troopers say a 16-year-old boy was driving a grey 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 truck east on U.S. 290 when it traveled off the road, rotated 180 degrees, and rolled down a steep embankment. Two teens were ejected from the backseat, investigators said.

A passenger in the truck, 17-year-old Ashley Farrell from Elgin, died at the scene.  Troopers say she was not wearing a seat belt.

Medics transported the truck’s driver and three other teens to University Medical Center Brackenridge. Troopers say two of those passengers did not have on seat belts. One is in critical condition, and the other is in serious condition at the hospital. The driver and one of the passengers, who were wearing seat belts, are both in stable condition.

Investigators have not determined whether icy roads or other factors may have caused the collision.
