A driver was killed Tuesday night after his truck ran off Interstate 40 in Lonoke County, police said.



Robert Douglas, 50, of Van Buren, was driving a 2006 International truck west on I-40 between Lonoke and Carlisle about 8:15 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the right shoulder and into some trees, according to an Arkansas State Police report.



Douglas died at the scene.



It wasn't clear what caused the truck to leave the highway. Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry.



The death was one of two in traffic crashes Tuesday and one of five reported so far in 2015, according to preliminary figures

A Henderson man was killed Tuesday afternoon when a collision forced the Jeep he was driving off the highway, where it overturned multiple times, authorities said.



It happened about 1:45 p.m. as Norman J. Forshee, 65, drove a 1980 Jeep on U.S. 62 in Henderson in Baxter County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.



Police say an eastbound 2015 Ford came up behind the Jeep, striking its rear and forcing it off the south side of the highway. Forshee was ejected as the Jeep overturned, police said. He died at the scene.



The Ford driver was not hurt.



Conditions at the time were reported to be clear and dry.
