PIPES BURST AT BATAVIA APARTMENTS FORCING EVACUATIONS

UPDATE: Residents cleared to return to Batavia senior apartments

BATAVIA — About 30 residents of the Havenwood Congregate Apartments in Batavia spent the night at the Comfort Inn Thursday after some pipes burst and the sprinkler system stopped working.

None of the apartments was affected but officials felt it wasn’t safe for residents to stay there without a functioning sprinkler system, Lauren Lutz, property manager for the facility, said Friday morning.

The situation has been cleared up and residents are returning to their apartments today.
