BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Many people living in the LBJ Apartments, in Buffalo, have to start the new year cleaning up a mess.

A pipe burst on the fifth floor of the building Wednesday afternoon. Water poured into several apartments, and even seeped into the first floor community room.

Residents there said they have about two inches of water in their homes. It damaged a lot of furniture and electronics.

One resident recalls how loud it was when the pipe burst. Emma Asobie said, “All of a sudden I looked because it was right there by my kitchen. Water kept dripping down. It was a horrifying noise. Then the pipe, water just started shooting out. Water shooting everywhere.”

Crews were on the scene for hours fixing the problem and cleaning up the mess.

Buffalo firefighters were also called out to the apartment complex Wednesday night to put out a fire.
