Columbus, Ohio

A Far West Side man died in a crash with a tractor-trailer on I-70 near Downtown last night.
Jerry W. Cornell, 42, was changing lanes on I-70 westbound, just east of Miller Avenue, when his car struck the rear of the tractor-trailer just after 6 p.m., according to Columbus police accident-investigation unit detectives.

Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene. A 1-year-old boy who was Cornell’s foster child was in the back seat of the car. The child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital but was not seriously hurt.

The truck driver, James Blamer of Pataskala, was uninjured.
