CHANDLER, AZ - A man has been taken to the hospital in critical condition after his vehicle was hit by a crane truck Thursday morning in Chandler.

Sgt. Joseph Favazzo, spokesman for Chandler police, said the 47-year-old crane operator admitted to police that he ran a red light at the Alma School Road and Fulton Ranch Boulevard intersection.

A Toyota Camry was entering the intersection from Fulton Ranch Boulevard when the crane truck crashed into its driver side. The man, 65, had to be extricated by first responders and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

His wife, who was in the passenger seat, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Air15 video showed the dark-colored vehicle in the middle of the intersection with a damaged door and broken glass. Signage on the side of the crane vehicle read "Sunrise Crane Service."

A quick internet search revealed that the company is located in Peoria.

Impairment and driver distraction do not appear to be factors in the crash. Any charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
