INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (WISH) – Three people remain hospitalized following a two vehicle crash on Sunday evening.

According to Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Reith, a 34-year-old female passenger and a 10-year-old were in critical condition. A seven-year-old child was in stable condition.

The crash happened on Keystone Avenue and 75th Street just before 8 p.m.

IFD said a 2004 Jeep Liberty was heading northbound on Keystone Avenue when they spun out and jumped a median, due to icy condition, causing the Jeep to hit a Nissan that was traveling southbound on Keystone.

All five people inside the Jeep were hospitalized. Three people were ejected, including the adult female, the 10-year-old and the seven-year-old. A 13-year-old passenger of the Jeep ran down the embankment to retrieve the seven-year-old to wait for medics. The 13-year-old and the 36-year-old male driver inside the Jeep were treated and released from the hospital.

The 30-year-old male driver of the Nissan was transported to the hospital in good condition. The 28-year-old female passenger was also transported in good condition to the hospital.

A second crash happened at the same location, involving two cars and a tow truck as they slowed to avoid the first crash. No one was injured in that crash. It was not clear if the tow truck was responding the first crash.

IFD said slick roads are believed to be the cause of the initial crash. It was not clear if the occupants of the Jeep were properly restrained in the vehicle.

IMPD will investigate the crash.
