7 PEOPLE, 3 PETS SAFELY ESCAPE CHIMNEY HOUSE FIRE IN FORT WAYNE, INDIANA

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Seven people safely escaped a fire near their chimney early Monday morning.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to 4521 Albert Drive on the city’s northeast side around 12:50 a.m. for a reported chimney fire.

Fire crews found fire in the walls of the home by the chimney. The house had filled with smoke by the time the first units arrived.

All seven made it out safely and three pets were rescued.

The house sustained moderate fire, smoke, and water damage, according to a fire department report.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.

Chimney fires are one of the leading causes of house fires.  Keep your chimney clean, make sure the mortar joints of the structure are inspected and repaired with the appropriate grout and inspect and maintain/repair the liner and crown of the chimney.
