AKRON, Ohio -- A total of eight people were hurt in an Akron house fire Thursday morning.

By the time officials responded to the scene at 947 Barbara Ave. around 9:50 a.m, the house had been engulfed in flames.

Three civilians were taken to local hospitals. Officials said a woman was badly burned, while another man and woman sustained smoke inhalation injuries.

Earlier, officials reported four firefighters suffered "minor burns," but have updated it to a total of five firefighters were hurt.

One of them had to jump out of the window.

Fire officials say three adults, a man, and two other women, were trapped inside as the blaze blocked a stairway.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
