FURNACE MALFUNCTION CAUSES Extra-alarm fire breaks out at CHICAGO’S Near North Side highrise building

Chicago firefighters were at the scene of an extra-alarm fire that broke out late Sunday afternoon on the upper floor of an Old Town neighborhood highrise building, said officials.

At least five ambulances were sent to the building located at 1540 N. LaSalle St., according to Chicago Fire Department Media information.

Fire Media said when firefighters first arrived, there was fire showing from the upper floors on the west side of the 24-story building.

As of 5:10 p.m., no injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished with light smoke on the upper floors, said Fire Media.

A preliminary investigation cited the cause of the fire as accidental due to a furnace problem.
