The fiery aftermath of a head-on collision between two semi trucks near Golden, B.C. has left one of the drivers dead.

RCMP Cpl. Steve Pettit said police were called to the wreck on the Trans-Canada Hwy. just after midnight Calgary time Tuesday, and found the two commercial vehicles had collided some 4 km west of Golden.

Pettit added a passing train also struck some of the debris from the crash.

A 27-year-old man from B.C.’s lower mainland was killed and the driver of the other semi was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary with critical injuries.
“We continue to investigate but no charges are anticipated,” Pettit said, adding it’s still unclear what led to the catastrophic crash.

Pettit added an RCMP collision analyst has been called in to assist in the investigation.
After being closed for most of the morning, the Trans-Canada Hwy. re-opened to traffic Tuesday afternoon, though delays were expected.
